Rafa Macarrón lives and works in Madrid, Spain. “I need to think about art, live with him and escape with him”
Rafa Macarrón (Madrid, January 1, 1981) self-taught artist, studied at the “Estudio” school, ex-cyclist and former physiotherapist. Son of architects Rafael Macarrón and María del Carmen Jaqueti. In addition they were both art collectors, he has lived fully immersed in culture.
He is obsessed by the loneliness of man before the immensity of the universe. In his paintings, Macarrón creates unique beings that claim the full prominence of each work and that embody both the universal and the unrepeatable. He paints everyday situations taken out of context and altered by the deformity of the characters that give off tenderness and kindness.
His paintings often play between two and three dimensions, adding architectural elements and volumes.
He uses all kinds of colors, a great challenge for him. He works with deceptive colors and sometimes makes mixtures that seem impossible but they end up being successful. Influenced by the comic, the Spanish painting of the 50s and 60s, the work of Fraile, Matta or Quirós, Macarrón becomes a reference in the painting of our time. Winner of the first BMW paint prize in 2011, he has been present in various countries and has participated in numerous fairs such as West Bund Art & Design, Shanghai, KIAF Art Seoul, The Armory Show NY, ARCOmadrid, Zona Maco, Art Central HK, Art Miami and Art Moscow.
